The brand new MINI GP3 by Manhart!

 

We have had the opportunity to work on this Manhart build MINI GP3 and it came out amazing! 

Firstly the car was custom wrapped by JD customs in the Manhart livery that suits perfectly with the new engine power that was raised to 350HP. Beek Auto Racing used their expertise and their tuning parts to move the powercurve to 350HP and 530N torque! A new intercooler, downpipe (miltek), exhaust (Remus) and software was changed to achieve this amzing Result! 

 

Suspensionwise, we, at AST suspension think MINI did a reasonable job. Yes, if you love a super stiff setup, this is your ride. If you love to do 99% trackracing on a smooth track, the setup is fine. But it has its limits!  So we started working on the Manhart GP350.

We have totally stripped the suspension of the car and tested everything on our CTW testing dyno's and spring testers to find out what MINI did with this new setup. With that data we have developed new lowering springs for the car. The AST suspension spring rates are a little lower than the OEM ones. The reason why we did this is very obvious, a street driving person will absolutely think that the OEM suspension is too hard, therefor we made them softer for a more compliant drive. But also less tricky when driving on the limits of the grip.  Less oversteer, more balance in the car. 


After the lowering springs for this MINI GP3 were finished we started developing the coilover kit. We took the dynograph from the OEM damper and translated the settings from the twintube OEM damper from poland to our Custom made 5100 series. We say custom made because its in fact custom build to the specs of the customer. They can have us choose the rates and settings but we can also build exactly what the customer wants. Spring rates, settings and heights are always depending on the driver, mods and other factors that were done to the car.  Before we build your set, we need to know:

  • Goal of the car. (track, street, both)
  • Other suspension mods like swaybars.
  • What sticky tires are on the car.
  • Any more aero mods.
  • What kind of driver is the driver.

We have a couple options for our suspension for the MINI JCW GP3:

  • AST suspension lowering springs
  • 5100 to be mounted to the OEM topmounts
  • 5100 with topmounts front(camber) and rear
  • 5200 complete with topmounts and reservoirs
  • 5300 complete with topmounts and reservoirs
